There are a few things that can cause your water to be hard.
- Check and make sure that your unit is going through a proper brine draw.
- Check and make sure that your unit is going through a proper brine fill.
If the brine cycles are performing properly:
Next, check the cold water for its hardness measurement with an appropriate tool. Run the cold water for a few minutes and collect a hardness reading.
Next, check the hot water for its hardness measurement with an appropriate tool. Run the hot water for a few minutes and collect a hardness reading.
*If one side is testing hard and the other is testing soft, your water softener is plumbed to one side only and will need to have the plumbing lines adjusted.
If the water is hard on both the hot and cold water when tested:
- Check for reverse plumbing.
- Check for the correct resin measurement.
*Confirm with a lab test or your city what your chlorine levels in the water are. High amounts of chlorine will melt the resin and damage the softener unit unless filtered out appropriately.
*Confirm with a lab test or your city what your iron levels in the water are.
High amounts of iron can clog the resin and damage the softener unit unless filtered out appropriately.
