How do I fix a leak underneath the control valve?

A leak underneath the control head is likely due to one of three things. 

 

  1. The control head is not threaded on properly and needs to be removed and rethreaded 
  2. One of the two o-rings found underneath the control head is out of its groove or pinched and needs to be reseated if out of the grooves or replaced if it is pinched. 
  3. The water pressure for the home exceeds the 125 PSI limitation for the water softener and needs to be reduced by a pressure-reducing valve
