Proper maintenance ensures your Fortitude Pro system continues removing chlorine, odors, and other contaminants effectively. Routine pre-filter replacement and scheduled backwashing help preserve media performance and extend the lifespan of the system.
Pre-filter Replacement
The Fortitude Pro system includes a sediment pre-filter (AS-FL-30PS) that helps keep sediment out of the main filtration tank.
To maintain consistent system performance, the pre-filter cartridge (AF-PS-30HFL) should be replaced:
- Every 6–12 months for city water
- Every 4–6 months for well water
Keeping the pre-filter clean protects the internal media and helps maintain proper flow rate throughout your home.
Note: In areas with heavy sediment, replacement may be required more frequently.
Backwash Frequency
The Fortitude Pro tank requires manual backwashing to remove trapped contaminants and refresh the filtration media.
Under normal operating conditions, the system should be backwashed every 7–10 days.
Regular backwashing prevents media compaction and ensures contaminants do not accumulate inside the tank.
How to Backwash the Fortitude Pro Tank
The manual valve has three positions: Filter, Backwash, and Fast Rinse.
Step 1: Backwash (15 Minutes)
Turn the valve to the Backwash position and allow it to run for 15 minutes.
During this stage:
- Water flows upward through the tank.
- The filtration media expands.
- Trapped impurities are flushed to the drain.
Ensure the drain line is properly directed to an appropriate drain location before beginning this process.
Step 2: Fast Rinse (10 Minutes)
After completing the backwash cycle, turn the valve to Fast Rinse and allow it to run for 10 minutes.
During this stage:
- The media settles back into place.
- Any remaining debris is flushed from the tank.
Once the fast rinse is complete, the filtration media will be properly reset and ready to resume normal operation.
Step 3: Return to Filter Mode
Once the rinse cycle is complete, turn the valve back to Filter mode to resume normal operation.
Total Cleaning Time
The full cleaning cycle consists of:
- 15 minutes Backwash
- 10 minutes Fast Rinse
- Total time: 25 minutes
This entire process should be performed every 7–10 days to maintain optimal filtration performance.
Media Lifespan
With proper maintenance, the Fortitude Pro media typically lasts 3–5 years.
Media lifespan can vary depending on:
- Chlorine levels
- Overall water quality
- Maintenance frequency
Consistent backwashing and timely pre-filter replacement help maximize media life and system efficiency.
