Below are answers to common questions about the Serene Series Salt-Free Water Conditioner.
Product Overview
What is the Serene Series?
The Serene Series is a salt-free water conditioner designed to help prevent scale buildup in plumbing systems and appliances. It conditions hard water without removing hardness minerals.
What sizes are available for the Serene Series?
The Serene Series is available in two flow-rate options: 10 GPM and 15 GPM.
What type of pre-filter comes with the Serene Series system?
The Serene Series includes a 20-inch pleated pre-filter designed to help protect the conditioning media from sediment.
Salt-Free Conditioning
How much iron does the Serene Series remove?
The Serene Series does not remove iron. If iron levels exceed 0.5 PPM (mg/L), additional treatment may be required before installation.
How does the Serene Series compare to the SPX filter?
Both systems help reduce scale buildup. The SPX uses Siliphos inside a cartridge-style filter, while the Serene Series is a dedicated tank-style salt-free conditioner designed to provide higher treatment volume and longer service life compared to a multi-purpose cartridge filter.
Does the Serene Series remove hardness minerals?
No. The Serene Series conditions calcium and magnesium minerals so they are less likely to form scale, but it does not remove them from the water.
Will my hardness test results change?
Hardness test readings may not change because the Serene Series does not remove hardness minerals. This is normal for a salt-free conditioner.
Will the water feel slippery like softened water?
No. Salt-free conditioned water does not usually have the slippery feel associated with salt-based softened water because calcium and magnesium remain in the water.
Does the Serene Series add sodium to the water?
No. The Serene Series does not use salt and does not add sodium to the water.
NAC Media
What does NAC stand for?
NAC stands for Nucleation-Assisted Crystallization. This is the conditioning method used to alter the structure of hardness minerals to help reduce scale formation.
What type of media is inside the Serene Series?
The Serene Series uses NAC media, which conditions hardness minerals so they are less likely to attach to surfaces and form scale.
What color is the NAC media?
The NAC media is sand-colored in appearance. This is normal.
What is the lifespan of the Serene tank media?
The NAC media has an average lifespan of approximately 5–7 years. In some cases, it may last up to 10 years depending on water quality and usage.
Why does my Serene Series tank feel partially empty?
The tank is not designed to be packed full of media. Extra space inside the tank helps support proper flow, contact time, and scale-prevention performance.
How much NAC media is inside each Serene Series model?
The amount of NAC media depends on the model:
- 10 GPM model: 7 liters of NAC media
- 15 GPM model: 10 liters of NAC media
System Requirements
What are the main operating limits for the Serene Series?

- Water temperature: 40°F–100°F
- pH range: 6.5–9.5
- Maximum hardness: 75 GPG / 1338 PPM
