Some customers are surprised when the Serene Series tank feels “empty” or sounds like there is less media inside than expected. This is normal for salt-free conditioning systems and is part of the tank’s intended design.
What the Media Fill Level Means
Unlike resin in salt-based softeners, salt-free media is not designed to fill the entire tank. The media may sit in the bottom portion of the tank, with open space above it.
This is intentional and does not mean the tank is missing media or defective.
There are a few design reasons the tank is not packed full:
- The system needs sufficient contact time so water can flow slowly and evenly through the media
- Extra space helps improve flow distribution and reduce channeling, where water may shortcut around the media
- A settling zone above the media helps reduce turbulence and support consistent treatment
This tank design helps the system condition water effectively without salt, electricity, or regeneration cycles.
Media Replacement Amounts
If you are replacing the NAC media, the amount needed depends on your model size. Replacement media is sold in liters.
Use the following amounts as the replacement guideline:
- 10 GPM model: 7 liters
- 15 GPM model: 10 liters
Buying the correct amount for your model helps ensure proper performance after replacement.
